The Montclair Art Museum, which first opened its doors in 1914, is the only art museum in New Jersey specializing in the collection and exhibition of American art. The Museum’s founders, principally William T. Evans and Florence Rand Lang, donated works from their collections of American paintings and Native American art, respectively, to form the basis of a collection that now includes Hudson River School paintings, 19th-century portraits, American Impressionism, Modernism, and 20th-century works in a variety of media, including significant collections of sculpture, photography, and works on paper. Every major culture group in the country is represented in the Museum’s renowned collection of Native American art.
